Environmental Services
Environmental services for beach communities are at the heart of GreenCo Services, LLC (GreenCo) operations. We have the qualifications and experience to meet and exceed all requirements necessary to restore beach communities following a disaster event. Many of our people have worked on beach cleanup projects almost their entire lives. In fact, most of them were born and raised on the Gulf Coast. From the tragedy of the BP oil spill to the catastrophe of Katrina, most of us have seen just about everything when it comes to beach cleanup.
We know and respect the importance of our wildlife and beach environment—from the sand to the sea turtles. On many of our projects we have worked side by side with representatives from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. All GreenCo vehicles and equipment have required lighting features and other required features such as low air pressure tires to minimize beach impact.
Under our current corporate name of GreenCo, we have been in business since March of 2015. However, the principals in our firm have performed work as prime contractors in disaster recovery and debris management for over ten years and we have one affiliate, Greenback Recycling, who has been doing business with beach communities for 12 years.
Even though we are a small firm by some standards, our longstanding relationships with qualified dependable contractors enables us to undertake and successfully perform multiple contracts. For example, following the April 2014 flooding along the Alabama Gulf Coast, principals of GreenCo and their affiliates simultaneously performed debris removal operations for three municipalities.
Decontamination and Cleanup services
Personnel and Equipment
GreenCo personnel are trained to remove or neutralize contaminants that have accumulated on personnel, and equipment. These services are critical to health and safety at hazardous waste sites. Decontamination protects workers from hazardous substances that may contaminate and eventually permeate the protective clothing, respiratory equipment, tools, vehicles, and other equipment used on site; it protects all site personnel by minimizing the transfer of harmful materials into clean areas; it helps prevent mixing of incompatible chemicals; and it protects the community by preventing uncontrolled transportation of contaminants from the site.
Site and Soil Decontamination
Once the site assessment is completed and contaminants have been properly identified, GreenCo will present a cleanup plan for client approval that guarantees full traceability across the entire waste elimination chain, regardless the type of waste or whether it can be processed on site or must be transferred to another site to either be treated, or in some cases sequestered.
Beach Restoration
Beach restoration, also known as “beach nourishment” is an expensive and time-consuming process. However many communities depend on this natural resource for recreation, their livelihood and also for protection from ocean storms. According to the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association, most of the popular beaches in the USA have undergone some form of nourishment over the years to reverse effects of natural erosion.
Beach nourishment/restoration projects vary according to the characteristics of the beach and the surrounding community. Some solutions involve trucking in thousands of pounds of sand to replace what is gone. Other solutions involve rebuilding dunes while other projects might involve building seawalls or breakers to protect shorelines. The professionals at GreenCo can assist your community in making the best decision.
In addition to assisting communities with beach restoration, we are also there to help with the somewhat simpler processes of beach cleanup following both public events as well as disaster storm events.
Asbestos Abatement
The handling of asbestos contaminated waste is an important health and environmental issue following a disaster, such as a tornado, high winds, hailstorm, earthquake, fires, flood, ice storm, or explosion. Once released into the environment asbestos fibers may pose serious health problems as the microscopic fibers may enter the respiratory system where they can accumulate and lay dormant for long periods of time, causing cancer and other health issues. There is no known safe level of asbestos exposure; even low-levels can potentially cause serious health problems.
GreenCo workers closely follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and safe work practices when performing asbestos abatement tasks ( 29 CFR 1910.1001 and 1926.1101 ) and are provided all the necessary personnel protective equipment (PPE) to meet these requirements when performing asbestos abatement.
Hazardous Waste Management
OSHA 3114 defines GreenCo’s standard for our hazardous waste operations. An effective and comprehensive safety and health program is essential in reducing work-related injuries and illnesses and in maintaining a safe and healthful work environment. Thus GreenCo has a safety and health program that identifies, evaluates, and controls safety and health hazards and provides emergency response procedures should they be required.
GreenCo provides services for all types of hazardous waste management—from white goods to chemicals and pesticides. Call us today and sit down with a GreenCo representative to discuss your community needs.
