GeenCo’s 4 Distinct Disaster Management Phases.

Disaster management is an ongoing cycle with four distinct phases. At any point in time a community is in one of these four phases: Normal Operations; Increased Readiness; Response; Recovery. Each of the phases of the cycle has specific activities and concerns associated with it: Planning Issues, Staffing Issues, Removal Issues and Disposal Issues When properly undertaken, addressing these issues successfully results in proper and successful disaster management for a community. Disaster is never a matter of “if.” It is always a matter of “when.”

Normal Operations - Disaster Recovery Planning

The Normal Operations phase, made up of disaster recovery planning, is the period of time when the community is not in any serious threat of a disaster event.

Increased Readiness - Disaster Recovery Staffing

The Increased Readiness phase, made up of disaster recovery staffing, occurs when there is a high probability that a natural disaster will impact the Community.

Response - Disaster Debris Removal

The Response phase, made up of disaster debris removal, is the period immediately after the event occurs and a disaster declaration is issued.

Recovery - Disaster Debris Disposal

Recovering from a disaster is a long, tedious process. The Recovery Phase, made up of disaster debris disposal, is marked by debris removal contractor(s) collection and reduction of storm generated debris from the public right-of-way.

Disaster Management can be defined as the organization and management of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters.

Disaster Recovery involves a set of policies, tools and procedures to enable the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems following a natural or human-induced disaster.

Debris Management is also one of many competing priorities agencies must manage during such events. It is important that disaster debris be properly managed so as to protect human health, comply with regulations, conserve disposal capacity, reduce injuries, and minimize or prevent environmental impacts.

Detention ponds are used to improve the quality of urban runoff from roads, parking lots, residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and industrial sites, and to reduce peak storm water runoff rates by providing temporary storage during larger storm events. As the owner of this storm water feature, it’s your obligation to assure its continued proper function. Call GreenCo Services to help you manage all of your disaster and debris management along with Pond runoff clean up.
